Mustafa Z. Younis is an internationally recognized scholar and tenured professor at Jackson State University, Mississippi, USA. He served as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society for Research of Healthcare Financial Management. Dr. Younis has authored and published over 100 articles, and 150 abstracts and presentations in refereed journals and meetings, and universities in America, Europe, and Asia. He has presented his work at national and international conferences. He coauthored articles appeared in leading journals such as Nature, the Lancet and JAMA Expert Review of Pharmoeconomics and European Journal of Health Economic. He has administrative experience as Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management at Florida International University, where he led the accreditation efforts for the Healthcare Management Program. He held a visiting professor positions at various universities such as Tsinghua University, China, University Putra Malaysia, and Jena University, Germany. He has a history of playing visible roles on the editorial boards of several journals such as Editor-in-Chief, Guest Editor and Editorial board member of leading journals, such as JHCF, Inquiry, JHHSA, JPBAFM, EJEPH

Dr. Pedro A. Jose received his MD degree from the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines and his PhD degree in Physiology from Georgetown University, Washington, DC, USA. The goal of Dr. Jose’s research is to determine the genetic and pharmacogenetic bases of human essential hypertension and the metabolic syndrome. Specifically, the mission of his laboratory is to study the role of dopamine, adrenergic, and angiotensin receptors and regulatory genes (e.g., GRK4, sorting nexins, gastrin) on renal sodium transport and their roles in the pathogenesis of genetic hypertension and metabolic syndrome. Dr. Jose has received several awards, e.g., 2003 Lewis K. Dahl Memorial Lecture (American Heart Association), 2007 Ernest H. Starling Distinguished Lecture (American Physiological Society), 2007 MERIT award (National Institutes of Health), 2015 Excellence Award for Hypertension Research (American Heart Association), and 2019 Pamana ng Pilipino Award, Republic of the Philippines. A key finding of Dr. Jose’s research is the demonstration of the crucial role of GRK4 gene variants in the pathogenesis and personalized treatment of hypertension. Dr. Jose and his associates have discovered genes that cause high blood pressure when sodium intake is excessive and more important, genes that cause high blood pressure when sodium intake is too low.
